Default GW and this laptop?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&CMP=ILC-FPM02

This is a laptop i'm thinking about buying. I'm not computer saavy in any way (although I'm learning quickly)

Will this be able to run guildwars, and how? (ie, high graphics, smooth, no lag) and is this laptop an overall good buy?

If this isn't the greatest laptop, does anyone have suggestions on a good gaming laptop, that I can also use for college, in the $500 dollar area?

It's not bad, you'll get <30 FPS on max with vsync on.
GMA X3100 is not a bad chip.

The FSB and RAM is kinda slow tho.
It's a $500 laptop, you get what you pay for.

How long would you suppose it could last me? Onto GW2 even?

It's not a gaming laptop. I don't think you'll be able to play GW2 on it.

In 3DMark05, the GMA X3100 scored 839. (GMA 900: 234, GeForce 6150 Go: 630, GeForce 8800M GTX SLi: 17,230)

Ditto. If I were you, I'd save up some more money and attempt to get a better laptop. GW1 might run somewhat well, but definitely not GW2.

It's faster, not by much tho.
It's expensive because it's a multimedia laptop, not a gaming laptop.

I'd go for a 8600M GT at least if I were you. I can play GW with max settings and 4x AA @ 1280x800 with an FPS of constant 60 with Vsync and 90-100 without...

i bought a laptop half a year ago or something.. maybe more. Acer Aspire 5100- i thought i wouldnt game too much, which im not. Tho when i do i dont want <30 fps.

if u wanna play games you gain nothing on buying a laptop- if u dont spend a waste load of cash.

unless your in a hurry to buy a laptop i would wait a little while longer. ill bet in a couple weeks once the bulk of the tax rebate checks start showing up there is going to be some great sales hitting from all the retailers trying to get a piece of everyones money. i wouldnt be surprised if we see day after thanksgiving prices for a couple of weeks. just keep watching you might be able to get twice the laptop for the money your willing to spend

Thanks for all the suggestions, i REALLY REALLY appreciate the help on these forums.

Basically what I'm looking for, is a mid range laptop, capable of smooth(but not extreme) gaming. I would like it to have the capabilities to run some of the newer games. I'm leaving for college soon, and my focus for a laptop is to have one so I can use it for the normal multimedia (email,surfing,video/graphic editing) and to earn my gaming fix when I need it. My price range would probably be 1500, which is around what Malice has posted, Ill take a look at it. I could probably wait another month or two, maybe even three, but its always good to shop around to ensure i get that best price a few months down the line : )

Thanks a lot

If you don't plan to lug your laptop to class, then this would be the best one. Problem is, it's big (17") and heavy (8 pounds). But it should run anything you want.

Or, you can consider a desktop plus a laptop for $1500. $1000 for the desktop and $400 for a basic, portable laptop. If you don't mind the cramped keyboard, the Asus Eee may be worth a look. It weighs two pounds.

Eh, i dunno. That may have a decent GPU but the CPU that it has is kinda slow for gaming at only 1.67ghz.

I agree. The CPU is weak, and the screen res is poor for the size. You want no less the 1680x1050 with a 17".

17" is too big for class anyway, not to mention the fan will be on constant with that 8800 in it.

I have a 17" notebook, and my fan is pretty much on always, and thats with a cooler CPU.

The Dell XPS 1330 is worth a look, but it only comes with a 8400 which sucks.

Dell Vostro 1500 can be customized with a 8600 etc, prob work out cheaper then the AW.
